Play Bowls
It’s lots of fun and great exercise, so why not come along and have a taster session at Barry Central Bowling Club.
You can’t go wrong at £5 per person for two hours, with all equipment provided, except the flat-soled trainers or deck shoes that you’ll need to wear on the green.
Club members can be available at the club to supervise your session and give you some coaching advice if needed.
Golden Pass Scheme
Barry Central Bowling Club is enrolled on the Vale of Glamorgan’s Golden Pass Scheme, which means you can get eight free taster sessions at our club to see if you’d like to take up bowls.
There’s just a few provisos before you take advantage of the pass… you’ll need to be over 60, take part in less than 150 minutes of physical activity a week and be a resident of the Vale of Glamorgan.
Then all you have to do is:
1) Complete a sign-up form to check your eligibility.
2) If accepted receive a welcome pack and Golden Pass in the post with a three-month expiry date.
3) Book an activity via normal provider registration process by phone or online.
4) Attend eight sessions of activity FREE of charge within the three-month window.
5) You can “mix and match” activities to try multiple options to ensure you find the right one for you.
6) After the sessions – ideally, become a member of Barry Central Bowling Club.
Contact our club secretary Jenny Rayment via the contact form below or find out more about the Golden Pass scheme via the Vale of Glamorgan Council website.
On the committee
At this year’s club AGM on 24 January the new committee was appointed for the 2026 season… the best news being that club captain Dan Walsh is staying on in the role, as are our president John Bergland and our treasurer and secretary Jenny Rayment.
Elsewhere there’ve been a few changes but see the list below for the full 2026 committee: President, John Bergland; Chairman, Russ West; Vice-Chairman, George Carstairs; Secretary, Jenny Rayment; Treasurer, Jenny Rayment; Bar God, Terry White; Captain, Dan Walsh; Vice-Captain, Steve Harrison; Fixture Secretary, Steve Harrison; Competition Coordinator, Steve Harrison; Hire & Grant Coordinators, Jenny Rayment & Steve Harrison.
Room Hire
Barry Central Bowling Club’s function room is available for hire at competitive rates to hold your birthday parties, charity events or other social gatherings.
If you are interested in hiring the hall please contact club secretary Jenny Rayment via the contact form below and let us know your requirements.
The bar is available upon request but use of the bowling green is not permitted, see our terms and conditions on the hire form.
For children’s parties look at local businesses to get softplay and bouncy castles, there are flyers available at the club for you to look at.
Community Events
From regular music nights and charity events to yoga workshops and a Christmas market… Barry Central Bowling Club plays an active part in the community.
The music nights feature the club’s regular “house band” Backtrack… but it’s more “classic rock” than “house”.
The club hosted a charity music event in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society in October last year and we are working with Dementia Friendly Barry on organising a bowls day early in 2026.
Yoga workshops
Lles Yoga runs regular Stretch & Flow workshops at the club, normally on Saturday mornings from 9.30-10.30am.
The sessions run according to demand and need to be booked in advance to ensure sufficient numbers are enrolled on the worshops and to secure your place on them as places are limited. Check out Lles’ Instagram page and Sumupstore to book.
Club open day 2026
The outdoor season got underway at Barry Central Bowling Club on Saturday, 4 April, when the club’s open day was held.
